Play with Bi-polar Junction Transistor

In this blog we will focus practical use of BJT at DC. There are lot of question arises how to start to play with a transistor for a newbie or any hobbyist.
For this practical we have to arrange following components:
  • BC547, a general purpose transistor and it's Datasheet (Download)
  • 40mW LED
  • Resistor (100K and 1K)
  • 9V battery
Fig-1: BC547 Test Circuit
 Follow these steps...
Step-1: Arrange all components.
Step-2: Make a circuit diagram and take a look of datasheet for transistor pin-out.
Fig-2: BC547 Pin-out

Step 3: Determine how much load current (or collector current Ic )you want. It is depend on value of Rc.
Step-4: Find out IB = IC / β, where β= 110 (approx, refer Datasheet).
Step-5:  To determine RB value
          RB= (VB-VBE) / IB ,
       where VBE = 0.7V

Step-6: Make all connection.

You may choose value of RB = 100K and Rc= 1K for sake of simplicity.
Determine rest of the values like IC ,IB using given formula.
This is the basic test. So you can practical with any transistor if you adopt this approach.
If you have any query you may ask.
